Any thinking person should realize that we face major challenges when it comes to the future of free speech and the internet. Disinformation and coordinated manipulation are a real, serious and unrelenting reality. Rightly and wrongly the claims of bias abound, and the broad lack of trust in what we read and see is palpable and growing.
For generations in the pre-internet physical world, we as a society balanced ideals of free speech with privacy, safety and security. But in the new frictionless digital environment, these ideologies are in fundamental and immediate tension in new ways.
